The Library is open to staff and pupils from 8.30 to 4.00, Monday to Thursday and from 8.30 to 3.00 on Friday. Pupils are welcome to use the Library during class time, with permission from their teacher, plus during morning and lunch breaks, and after school.
As well as a large collection of both fiction and non-fiction books, the Library provides computers, which may be used by pupils for school work, newspapers and magazines, and a collection of education games that pupils may use during break times. All pupils may borrow two items from the Library for a period of two weeks – although this can be extended on request. The Library also hold a large collection of Accelerated Reader books which are used in all KS3 English classes.
The Library has a nice atmosphere that helps engage the pupils when they visit. It is full of colourful and interesting displays. Each month there is a theme in the Library; this involves large displays, an excellent collection of books and is featured in all the afterschool clubs.
The Library runs afterschool clubs four days a week:
This for Year 11 only and is a time to revise and catch up on any work and share revision techniques with other pupils.
This is for all year groups. Pupils vote to watch a particular film out of the choice given by the Library Officer. Popcorn and squash are given free of charge. It has a real feel of the cinema but in the safe and comfortable environment.
This is open to all year groups. Pupils will pick their team mates of up to six and take part in a quiz or other activities. Each pupil receives a certificate and prize for taking part and a larger prize for the winners. It is a very competitive evening, but lots of fun!!
This is session open to all years groups and is for general use of the Library.
The Library feels alive, full of excitement, enthusiasm and of course lots of happy pupils,
As my poem says….‘The Library is a great place to be’
